PaganPages: Merry Meet Denise, Thank you for taking the time to talk to us this evening.
Denise Dumars: It's a pleasure, thank you for having me.
PaganPages: Ok So, you've written tons of books and even had reviews on journals such as Fate & Sage Woman.
Congratulations on your success.
What inspired you to become a writer?
Denise Dumars: Thank you, well i've been a writer all of my life. I first got published at the age of 19 and i've written novels, short stories and it wasn't until recently that i started writing books about the craft.
PaganPages: Amazing, Are you working on anything at the moment? Any upcoming projects?
Denise Dumars: Um yes, I'm working on a couple of projects those which i don't want to talk about just yet.
PaganPages: Your latest book is called " Be Blessed " can you explain to our readers a bit on what the book is about?
Denise Dumars: The book is indeed called " Be Blessed " and is a collection of daily devotions that can be incorporated in everyday life.
It's written for both beginners and advanced practicioners as well, is mostly for bringing a little magick into your everyday life not just on holidays.
PaganPages: Sounds Amazing
Denise Dumars: Have you read the book?
Pagan Pages: No, actually i haven't had time to get the book but I def will. You also contributed to Llewellyn's annuals such as
The Magickal Almanac & Spell a day calendar.
How did that come about?
Denise Dumars: Umm well, they contacted me actually. i'm not quite sure what work they haved seen from me but they contacted me and they asked me to write a couple of spells for them.
In the magickal almanac i have the month of november in which i talk about the day of the dead, i travel alot trough mexico whch is where i became familiar with the sacred day.
PaganPages: I Understand that you credit your middle school and your high school years for the foundation of your writing!
Tell me a little bit about that?.
Denise Dumars: Um not really, I actually didn't have such a pleasant experience during my school years. It wasn't until i went to college that i got the skills in writing and decided to write my books. So i credit my first college for the foundation of my writing.
PaganPages: I was Interested to know that you enjoy hanging around movie sets and i quote " takin long walks in cemeteries " is that correct?
Denise Dumars: Yes, i used to be a film journalist and if you type my name on google you can find some of the work i did for a couple of movies. Um Cemeteries i think they are wonderful and inspiring and i just love them.
PaganPages: Really!, as opposed to a walk in the park?
Denise Dumars: Yes, have you gone to cemeteries? where do you live?
PaganPages: Well i live in new york and i actually haven't had the chance to visit any cemeteries yet.
Denise Dumars : Oh New york, well you have one of the most wonderful cemeteries there, you have Woodland which is where my father is burried. You have tons over there you can visit.
PaganPages: Really!?, well i'm gonna have to check that one out soon. Since you've written many books on paganism and witchcraft,
What do you think about how wicca/witchcraft is being portrayed now a days?
Denise Dumars: Well, i think it depends on who is portraying it but i think is being portrayed accurately. I mean i'm sure alot of people have lots to say about it but i don't really.
PaganPages: My Last question will be, What advice can you give to those aspiring writers out there?
Denise Dumars: Yes well, write what you want to write, do your best, don't sell yourself short and surround yourself with people who are possitive and supportive of your work and not anybody who's gonna bring you down.
PaganPages: Well thank you so much Denise for taking the time to do the interview with us, have a wonderful evening.
Denise Dumars: Thank you guys for having me.
